Rupert is a boy’s name of German origin. It derives from the Latin Rupertus, which itself comes from the Old High German Hruodoperht or Hruodoberht, which is also the root of Robert. The Old High German name is composed of two elements, hrothi (fame) and berht (bright), giving it the meaning “fame bright.” Fittingly, there have been many famous Ruperts, including actors Rupert Grint and Rupert Everett. Rupert was also the name of a former King of Germany, so your little one will be in esteemed company!
