Mattie

Mattie may appear to be a variation of Mathew, but this gender-neutral name is actually rooted in the German Matilda. Originating in the Old English tongue as Mæðhilde, Mattie is formed from the German elements maht, meaning "might," and hild, "battle." More than a low-key nickname, Mattie exhibits a "mighty battler" or one who demonstrates "strength in battle."
