More about Hebrew culture
Hebrew is a language full to the brim with history and cultural influence. It’s one of the world’s few surviving ancient languages and is still spoken today! Known primarily for its biblical transcriptions, Hebrew has a strong connection with those of Jewish faith. Though, unlike a great deal of ancient languages, this one got a revival in order to keep it alive for the 9 million and counting still speaking it — after 2,000 years no less! This revival helped enable people to use Hebrew in their daily lives rather than exclusively using it for their religious practices.
Though even through this revival, Hebrew can still be a puzzling one to those more accustomed to modern ideas of language. Its oral tradition is one worth commending; the Hebrew alphabet is known as an ‘abjad’ and relies on the reader to know the pronunciations of its vowels rather than explicitly writing them. Though this language is tough, it’s far from being done and dusted. With scholars worldwide that care for the language and an academy that is continually revising it, Hebrew will be around for a long time yet.
