Vroom, vroom! Harley has taken off as a unisex name in the US, although it's given to many more girls than boys these days. It originated from a surname that was taken from a place name; the place name, in turn, was derived from the Old English “hara” (“hare”) and “leah” (“woodland, meadow”). Filmmaker Kevin Smith drove off with a winner when he named his daughter Harley in 1999.
